Ilya Altman, co-chairman of the “Holocaust Center” opened the ceremony with a minute of silence, in memory of the victims. Afterwards the chairman of the Congress of jewisch religious organisations, rabbi Zinovy Kogan held a speech, and the cantor of the Choral-Synagogue Benjamin Weissman sang a memorial prayer. During the ceremony, Aleksej Karpow, director of the Russian-Jewish Congress noticed, that people from all ages, nations and religions had come together to remember the Holocaust, and all other crimes the Nazi-regime committed.
From the 16th to 19th of Juli Alla Gerber, president of the fond “Holocaust” and member of the Public Chamber of Russia, went together with Sergej Rjachowskij and Aleksander Brod to Lithuania and Estonia. Aim of the journey was to recall the terribly crimes which were committed by Nazi Germany, as well as the fate of thousands of Jews during this era. The project was supported by the Russian Research and Educational Center “Holocaust” and the President of the Russian Federation.
From the 17th to the 19th of June Ilya Altman attended the conference “Limud” which took place in Ukraine and dealt with the 70th anniversary of Great Patriotic War, as well as with the Holocaust in Ukraine, especially the massacre of Winnyzja. Invited were people from all over the world, especially from Ukriane, Russia, Moldavia and Israel. During the commemorative ceremony, which was held by E. Vitorgan, representatives of the city, the Knesset and the parliament of Israel attended. After the ceremony, Ilya Altman held a lecture about “Memorial of the Holocaust: What can you do?”, “Holocaust and the war: A chronic of senses” and the Holocaust in general. Besides also Boris Maftsir (Yad Vashem), Aaron Weiss (Joint) and Juri Tabak (Moscow) lectured about the Shoah.
