29 2011 On April 29 the annual Marathon of Memory took place at the Museum of Jewish Heritage and the Holocaust on Poklonnaya Hill. The event is dedicated to the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and the Holocaust Memorial Day Yom HaShoah. The Marathon is a joint project of the Holocaust Center and the Russian-Jewish Congress.
About 500 students and teachers from Moscow metropolitan area visited not only the documentary exhibition but also talked to former ghetto prisoners, partisans and soldiers who took part in the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp. A small highlight of this year’s event was the participation of the German and Austrian volunteers of the Holocaust Center, who talked to the students about the significance of Holocaust remembrance and the way Germany and Austria nowadays cope with their Nazi past.
After a brief ceremony and a couple of speeches delivered by staff members of the Center, the Synagogue, Jewish and Protestant organizations from Moscow and St. Petersurg, a minute’s silence was held to commemorate the victims of WW2. The Marathon ended with an address by the film director Alexander Marutjan and the presentation of his documentary “The Arithmetic of Freedom”.
The event showed that the history of the Holocaust is perceived as an important part of human history by a growing number of individuals in Russia: The majority of the participants were students from vocational schools in the banking sector, the constructing industry and the pedagogic domain.

The Tomsk Regional Center of Education held a two-day
seminar on "Lessons of the Second World War and the Holocaust, jointly
organized with the Center for Holocaust. The project was finanically supported
by a state support fund. Participants were among others the advisor to the
Governor of the Tomsk Oblast, S.I. Nikiforov, Rabbi of Tomsk Levi Kaminetsky
and associate professor of TGU S.V. Wolfson. More than 80 teachers and students
attended the seminar. During their visit in Tomsk,
Ilya Altman and the head of the Holocaust Center Archive Leonid Terushkin
presented a compilation of letters and diaries at a seminar and visited a
synagoge and community center in Tomsk.

At the Ashdod Club, veterans of World War II who fought against the Nazis held presentations on latest publications on issues such as the Holocaust and Heroism. It is symbolic that the meetring was held on the day of the 50-year anniversary of the start of the trial of Adolf Eichmann. Gregory Reikhman stress the importance of the trial of Eichman for the Israeli society and for the Jewish state as a whole. Ashdod chairman M. Dendze expressed the hope that such meeting will take place more regulalry and with the participation of Israeli youth.
April 7 / Work Center Summer School "Holocaust" will be organized jointly with the Academy for training and retraining of educators.
07 2011 On April 7 a memorandum was signed between the Holocaust Center and the Federal Academy for training and retraining of educators. Both parties expressed their willingness to cooperate to test a jointly developed curriculum course "Lessons of the Holocaust - the way to tolerance" on the basis of AIC and the regions of Russia:
- The Academy will hold a three-day seminar for representatives of the egional FDI from 15 to 17 August 2011. Classes are based on a jointly developed course program "Lessons of the Holocaust - the way to tolerance" (72 hours) and will be conducted by the lecturers of the Centre of AIC;
- The Academy will send listeners to the 3-day seminar of the Project Selection Workshop "Summer School", organized by the Holocaust Center from 18 to 20 August;
- The Academy will test modules and tools by the Holocaust Center for their foreign exchange flows of students in 2011;
- Participating in regional seminars held jointly by the parties.
In addition, the parties agreed to apply to the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation with a request for using the training module on the Holocaust, designed by the Centre and endorsed by the Academy, in the seminars.

History teachers throughout Russia and the Holcoaust Center held a Congress of Russian history teachers in Moscow on March 31 - April 1, 2011 at the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was stressed that the role of history teachers for shaping a civic younger generation is vital. The coordinator of the educational programs of the Pskov Regional Institute of Teacher Training, Tatiana Pasman, presented positive results of the co-operation of educational institutions of the Pskov region with the Holocaust Center.
April 2 / The Holocaust Center took part in the Intercollegiate Scientific Conference at RGGU
Co-chairman of the Holocaust Center and Professor at RGGU, I. Altman, and Head of the Archives Division of the Holocaust Center, L. Terushkin, presented a report at the Interuniversity Scientific Conference on the problems of modern historiography and sources. Furthermore, I. Altman presented a report on the topic „History of the Holocaust of the Soviet territory in 1941 in the context of countering myths about the Great Patriotic War“ and L. Terushkin held a lecture on „The moral and psychological preparedness of Red Army soldiers: pre-war preperations and military reality“.
