On April 26th the open seminar “Destruction of the European Jews during the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto in 1943 – Russian and Polish attitude” took place at the University of Warsaw. Moderator of the discussion, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Professor Adam Rotfeld took a very deliberate analysis of the historiography on the subject and prospects of cooperation between Russian and Polish scientists to study the history of the Holocaust. Professor Andzej Zbykovsky, a participant of many conferences of the Russian Holocaust Center, conducted the analysis of the major stages of the uprising and its memorialization. Claimed as the keynote speaker co-chairman of the Russian Holocaust Center Ilya Altman presented his project from Moscow within the videoconference. He focused on the responses in the Soviet press on the murder of the Polish Jews and the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto, prohibition to publish thematic books in the USSR in the 1960s. Ilya Altman also looked into the interpretation of the role of Poles in helping the rebels and butchers in L. Mlechin’s new movie “Uprising-43”. The seminar was conducted within the academic project of public discourse Russia-Poland.
